Verstappen takes second pole position in Singapore ahead of the Ferraris | 2026 Singapore Grand Prix qualifying report

Max Verstappen claimed his second pole position of the Singapore Grand Prix weekend ahead of the Ferrari drivers.

Having taken pole position for the sprint race, which he won earlier today, Verstappen produced a lap of 1’31.373 to put his Red Bull at the front of the field again.

Lewis Hamilton looked a serious threat for pole position but the Ferrari driver faded in Q3. Having set the second-fastest time on his first run, Hamilton was unable to improve on his last lap, struggling with oversteer in the final corners, and fell to third place.

Charles Leclerc therefore joins Verstappen on the front row of the grid. Andrea Kimi Antonelli will start fourth.

The McLaren pair with share the third row of the grid. George Russell qualified sixth but will start from the back of the grid due to his power unit change penalty.

Pierre Gasly was the only Alpine driver to reach Q3 after Franco Colapinto smacked the barrier at the exit of turn 17. Gasly led the Racing Bulls drivers in Q3.

The Haas pair also went out in the second round, Esteban Ocon being relieved to get that far after skidding to a stop at turn 13 in the first session. Nico Hulkenberg took 11th on the grid but the stewards will investigate him for potentially impeding Carlos Sainz Jnr, who also dropped out in Q2. Alexander Albon did not get beyond the first round in his Williams.

Isack Hadjar’s grim day continued. Having retired from the sprint race with a technical problem he was quick to thank his team for repairing his car as SQ1 began. But his RB22 came to a stop again within minutes. Hadjar was able to drive it back to the pits but he took no further part in the session.

The Aston Martin and Cadillac drivers also dropped out in the first round. Lance Stroll chased Valtteri Bottas across the line then slowed sharply, locking his brakes.
