Social media: Italian sports newspaper takes swipe at Ferrari as Antonelli claims title | Brief

The major Italian daily sports newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport delivered a stark verdict on Ferrari’s performance as Andrea Kimi Antonelli clinched the 2026 world championship.

“Kimi Antonelli is a Formula 1 world champion,” read the commentary on the front page of Monday’s edition. “Thanks to his talent, the car and the fact that he isn’t racing for Ferrari.”

Antonelli’s father Marco has previously said Ferrari missed the opportunity to sign his son. He claimed Maurizio Arrivabene, Ferrari team principal from 2014 to 2019, turned him down.

The new world champion joined Mercedes’ young driver programme at the age of 11. Yesterday he scored the eighth drivers’ championship success for a Mercedes driver since 2014. No driver has won the world championship in a Ferrari since Kimi Raikkonen in 2007.
