Harry Hoekstra claimed 5 for 46 in Victoria’s Sheffield Shield fixture against Tasmania at Bellerive Oval, Hobart, his second first-class five-for in as many games.
Harry Hoekstra continues rise with second consecutive five-for in Sheffield Shield
The 20-year-old left-arm pacer from Victoria turned heads as he ran through the Tasmania batting unit on the first morning of the Sheffield Shield contest in Hobart. Hoekstra got the breakthrough on the third ball of his spell, removing the opposing captain Jordan Silk off a short delivery.
On a day when run-scoring wasn't easy, Caleb Jewell fell to an innocuous delivery way down the leg side, handing Hoekstra his second wicket. The seamer then sent back Nivethan Radhakrishnan and Nikhil Chaudhary with back-of-a-length deliveries that seamed away just a little bit.
Hoekstra then completed his five-wicket haul by having Mitch Owen caught at mid-wicket off a fuller length, reducing Tasmania to 35-6 by the end of his 10th over. Despite his demolition job, Tasmania recovered to 241 on the back of 128 by Ben McDermott and Jake Doran's 73.
It was his second consecutive five-for in the format in his second first-class match, having registered figures of 6 for 103 against South Australia in the previous game. He also contributed 45 runs in the first innings in that game. This was also Hoekstra's third consecutive five-wicket haul, earlier snaring 5 for 42 in a List A match versus New South Wales.
The youngster has little experience in senior men's cricket with only four games under his belt, including the ongoing contest. In youth cricket as well, he played only one red-ball match against India A in 2024, picking up a couple of wickets and as many from two youth ODIs on the tour.
