Sergio Perez performed a show run in his home country ahead of this weekend’s Mexican Grand Prix.
The Cadillac driver took to the streets of Mexico City along the Paseo de la Reforma. Over 100,000 fans were estimated to have attended the event. The event promoters billed this as Perez’s fourth appearance in a Formula 1 car on the streets of his home country. However it appears Perez was not in fact driving a real F1 car.
Teams ordinarily use older cars to conduct show runs and ‘Testing of Previous Cars’. As this is Cadillac’s first season in F1 they have no such cars available.

Cadillac yesterday confirmed Perez will continue to drive for them until at least 2029. He will make his 300th start in his home race at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez this weekend.
“Being able to celebrate my 300th grand prix here is extraordinary,” said Perez. “A lot had to happen for this to become a reality, and being able to share this moment with everyone who has supported me, in such an iconic place as Reforma, makes it incredibly special to me. Thank you to Cadillac and everyone who made this possible.”
