Pakistan v England: tri-series one day international cricket – live

Arafat picks up another! Slower through the air and tossed up, he invites Overton to hit this down the ground. The batter obliges but has to reach for it at the last moment and so can't extract the requisite oomph to see it clear the man at long-off. Babar watches it all the way, takes stock of where the boundary is behind him and pouches it safely.

Jimmy Anderson is not done yet!

He confirms his Lancashire exit but hasn't committed to anything moving forward. Don't be surprised to see him playing for another county next season. Still, always sad to see a legend leave his beloved team.

40th over: England 199-8 (Overton 9, Atkinson 3) The sound of the ball off Overton's bat was like a firecracker! He absolutely Rauf's short ball well in front of square for four. He crunches a cut shot as well, but there's a man sweeping there.

39th over: England 192-8 (Overton 3, Atkinson 2) Arafat has a slip in place, briefly at least, for the Atkinson. He's mixing his pace up to both batters and gives up just three singles.

38th over: England 189-8 (Overton 1, Atkinson 1) Big, big job here for the tail. Phew, what can they reasonably expect to post? Credit to the young Razaullah on debut. He's hammered that short length all day and he gets the reward of a second wicket. Though Dawson will not want to see that. Just pretty meek. Hardly a pull of any authority, more a tame swivelled prod. Pakistan well on top here.

Another short ball, another wicket! Dawson takes on the rookie who bangs it into the deck and invites the pull. Dawson doesn't get on top of the bounce though it comes off the middle of his bat. He's hardly trying to hit this into orbit, so it's a bit of a nothing shot in the end. The fielder running in from a wide fine leg makes the catch. England capitulating fast.

37th over: England 187-7 (Dawson 5, Overton 0) England's lower order have a big job to do here. They have plenty of time, and the first order of business will be to avoid getting bowled out. But they can't simply meander their way through these final overs. Without Duckett, their chances of reaching 300 little pretty slim.

The left armer gets the left hander! They were holding Arafat back and we wondered why, well he's bagged the big wicket of Duckett! On the sweep, his go-to against spin, this isn't quite full enough to smother and the extra bounce off the surface – a consequence of slower pace through the air – means it catches the top edge and balloons down to the fielder at 45. A wonderful innings comes to a soft end. Pakistan's players shake Duckett's hand but they'll be thrilled to see the back of him.

36th over: England 186-6 (Duckett 106, Dawson 3) Razuallah is banging it in short into both batters. Ducket slices one through backward point and gets two before he angles a pull down to the sweeper at a wide fine leg. Dawson drills a pull shot but there's a sweeper down there for him as well so it's just one. England will want at least 300. They'll need to do something pretty special to get there.

35th over: England 180-6 (Duckett 101, Dawson 2) Duckett wonders why a wide wasn't called in this Arafat over. Here's why: before the bowler let go of the ball he changed his stance and was basically standing as a right hander. So even though it was far down leg side, it was technically the off side so judged to be legal. Make sense? Anyway, there are just three singles in this over, including the one down the ground that took Duckett to three figures.

That is a serious knock from the England opener! He reaches three figures with a little bunt down the ground. With his mates falling at the other end, he has dug in and reached three figures off just 104 balls without really getting out of third hear. Great knock.

England's Ben Duckett celebrates after scoring a century

34th over: England 177-6 (Duckett 99, Dawson 1) The 21-year-old debutant, Razaullah, has his first ODI wicket thanks to a great caught and bowled. Duckett then pulls a short ball into a gap and considers coming back for the second to bring up his hundred, but he's carrying a leg injury so turns Dawson back.

What a way to claim your first ODI wicket! Full and at the stumps, Jacks looks to turn it towards the on side but catches it with a thick leading edge. It pops back to the bowler who has to dive forward and thrust out a long arm. He plucks it inches from the ground and there's a short moment where it's unclear if he grabbed it. But he did and Jacks has to drag himself off the park. That is a serious return catch from the debutant.

Razaullah celebrates with teammates after taking the wicket of England's Will Jacks.

33rd over: England 174-5 (Duckett 97, Jacks 13) Arafat is flighting it up to Duckett, challenging him to play against the spin or hit over the top. Duckett shows a touch of frustration as he struggles to work a single, but then shows his quality by getting low to reverse sweep stiffly to the sweeper at backward point to keep the strike. Getting closer…

32nd over: England 170-5 (Duckett 95, Jacks 12) Jacks punches Rauf off the back foot and collects three. Duckett inches closer to his ton with a pair of singles and will have the strike for the next over.

Dean Kinsella has written in:

Good morning (afternoon?) Daniel. I'm all over the place with the time change. Nearly missed my bus from Faro to Lisbao, then had an hour to kill as I was an hour early.

Anyhow, as a result, I missed the start. Was it a new ball(s) thing? Lots of swing etc? Doesn't look too bad of a strip right now

Combo of poor batting – or rather, meek batting – some good catching and lovely zip off the surface for the new ball. But Banton, Root and Brook pretty much gave their wickets away.

31st over: England 165-5 (Duckett 93, Jacks 9) Arafat continues, looking to bag the big wicket of Duckett who doesn't love facing left arm finger spinners. Both batters rotate well, collecting six runs off the over by working the gaps and staying patient.

30th over: England 159-5 (Duckett 91, Jacks 5) Duckett moves into the 90s with a tickle to Rauf's opening ball that skips away fine for four. Jacks, who was quietly brilliant against Sri Lanka with 66 not-out off 33 balls, gets to work here with a couple off his pads before a single through the covers.

England's Ben Duckett and England's Will Jacks in action.

29th over: England 151-5 (Duckett 86, Jacks 2) Finally we have Arafat, who bagged six English wickets a few days ago. He's starting well, getting some skid off the pitch. He almost beats Duckett, who is back to a ball he should have pressed forward to. Duckett looks uncomfortable off a small sample size of five dot balls in a row. Duckett manages to plink a single down the ground, but that's a good start from the left arm spinner, conceding just one run off that set.

28th over: England 150-5 (Duckett 85, Jacks 2) Shadab convinces Shaheen to review but it's a wasted one. Encouraging signs though as he got that to grip and turn sharply back into Duckett's pad. But it was turning too much to bother the stumps. Jacks rotates and picks up a couple of singles. Duckett sweeps well, but he picks out the fielder between fine leg and deep square, so settles for just one to bring up the 150.

Shadab is convinced that Duckett is plumb lbw! He insists on reviewing the not-out decision. Looked like it was angling to me. Yup, that was turning sharply and down leg.

27th over: England 145-5 (Duckett 83, Jacks 0) Well then, after all that hard graft from Curran he's gone. Pretty poor if you ask me. He neither took on the bouncer nor looked to rude the bounce. Just a tame waft at the lifting ball and it was a comfortable catch just off the rope. pakistan's captain strikes in an over worth just two runs. Duckett needs to carry his bat (which I'm sure he's trying to do anyway).

A bolt from the blue! Totally against the run of play, Curran takes on Shaheen's bouncer but can only catch it with the top edge. It sails in an arc towards the fielder down at fine leg who runs in off the rope to take the comfortable catch. Credit to the bowler for digging it in, but that is tame from Curran who has thrown away a golden opportunity here.

26th over: England 143-4 (Duckett 82, Curran 41) Duckett is in full flow now. Over pitched from Shadab, but he plays this perfectly, clearing his front leg as he drives wide of mid-off while presenting the full face of the bat to pick up four runs. That's the shot of the day for me. Then it's a case of rotating the strike as the partnership reaches 91.

25th over: England 135-4 (Duckett 75, Curran 40) Shaheen recognises that something has to change so he's back on to do it himself. His first ball is a rank half-tracker that Duckett spanks for four through midwicket. After the madness at the top, both batters now look totally in control.

24th over: England 128-4 (Duckett 69, Curran 39) Not sure what Shaheen is waiting for before bringing on his primary strike spin bowler. But there's still no Arafat. Shadab bowls some darts and coughs up three singles, so its not exactly a disaster, but he doesn't look like getting a wicket. Pakistan need to break this partnership. It feels like they're letting England drift a little.

23rd over: England 125-4 (Duckett 67, Curran 38) Duckett nails a sweep shot off Salman. He never bothered keeping it down and gets a whole lot of it as it sails over midwicket for six. He barely touched it and het it exploded off the willow. Then he reverses and lofts it over the man at short third. Wonderful batting, toying with the bowler. He then collects a single off the last ball to keep the strike before needing some minor medical attention. Not sure what the issue is as he has a chat with the physio, but he'll be OK I'm sure.

22nd over: England 113-4 (Duckett 56, Curran 37) Oooh, Duckett gets low to play a premeditated scoop. He gets one for it but he barely got down in time. Had he missed he'd be lbw for sure! Still no Arafat, who bagged a six-for last time out against England.

21st over: England 108-4 (Duckett 53, Curran 35) Duckett brings up his 50 with a bunt down the ground. He's helped dig his team out of a deep hole here but has plenty of work left to do. Curran adds another single with a cut down to deep point before Duckett sweeps for two and then drives down the ground for one. They're rotating the strike well. Curran keeps the strike with another single off the last ball.

20th over: England 102-4 (Duckett 49, Curran 33) Leg spin now as Shadab Khan finally enters from stage right. He's not looping or ripping it, but the change of angle and direction of turn at least gives the batters something else to consider. Ducket brings up the 50-run stand with a reverse sweep down to the fielder at deep backward point.

19th over: England 98-4 (Duckett 48, Curran 30) Salman isn't exactly threatening, but he's keeping things tidy. Is that enough for Shaheen after the blistering start for Pakistan? Both batters look comfortable knocking about singles as their partnership reaches 45.

18th over: England 95-5 (Duckett 47, Curran 29) Curran rocks back and nails a pull shot to Razaullah's half-tracker for four, getting it well in front of square. Rather than correct his length and go fuller, he drops it even shorter, giving away a wide over Duckett's head. That's the exuberance of youth – he is only 21. When he shows more control, hitting a good length, he looks more menacing.

17th over: England 89-4 (Duckett 47, Curran 23) We're fully in the middle overs period of this ODI now. Good from Salman, just the right pace and flight and drift to keep the batters honest. Three singles across the set. Pakistan won't mind that.

16th over: England 86-4 (Duckett 46, Curran 21) Razaullah returns and is steaming in, banging away at a good length, angling it into the left-handers as he attempts to cramp them up. He does well, keeping Curran to just one single and Duckett scoreless.

Really interested to see how Curran goes now. This is a perfect opportunity to dig in and register a score that secures his place in the team for an extended run. What an opportunity for him.

15th over: England 85-4 (Duckett 46, Curran 20) Salman on and he's immediately tidier than Saim who was missing his length on the shorter side. Salman is tossing it up and inviting the England batters to press forward. Just the three singles from that set.

14th over: England 82-4 (Duckett 44, Curran 19) Rauf cuts Duckett in half with one that jags back in on the angle from a good length. A whisker away from both the inside edge and the top of off. Duckett is up for the challenge, though, as he smokes one through midwicket for four. That came down at 89mph but must have left the bat at twice that speed from rolled wrists in front of square.
