
25 years ago today Alex Zanardi incredibly survived a violent crash at the Lausitzring, but lost both his legs.
Zanardi was rejoining the track after a pit stop with 12 laps to go when he spun into the path of oncoming cars and was struck by Alex Tagliani.
Following his recovery, Zanardi described what he remembered of the crash in this interview:
Zanardi returned to motorsport and claimed four gold medals in the 2012 and 2016 Paralympics. He passed away in May.
