10 years ago today Lance Stroll scored his most recent victory to date, in his final race before he became a Formula 1 driver.
Just two weeks shy of his 18th birthday, Stroll’s promotion to F1 with Williams the following year had already been announced. He had clinched the European Formula 3 championship earlier in the season and won both of the preceding two races in the season-ending triple-header at the Hockenheimring.
For his last race at Prema, Stroll lined up fourth on the grid behind Joel Eriksson, Jake Hughes and Callum Ilott. Stroll wasn’t the only future F1 driver on the grid: others included Nikita Mazepin (10th), Zhou Guanyu (13th) and George Russell (15th). Anthoine Hubert, who tragically died in a Formula 2 crash in 2019, lined up seventh.
