On this day in 1996 Damon Hill won the world championship at Suzuka after his team mate Jacques Villeneuve retired. It was Hill’s final race for Williams, who had announced earlier in the season he would not race for them next year.

The race also saw Martin Brundle make his final appearance in a grand prix.
