On this day in 2016 Daniel Ricciardo won the Malaysian Grand Prix on a dramatic day for the championship fight.

After championship leader Nico Rosberg was sent spinning on lap one by Sebastian Vettel, it seemed as though Lewis Hamilton was on course to slash his team mate’s points advantage.

But a big end failure on Hamilton’s Mercedes power unit instead left him with a mountain to climb over the season’s final races. “Something just doesn’t feel right,” remarked Hamilton afterwards.
