Esteban Ocon looks set to leave Haas at the end of the season as the driver admitted he is a “free agent” for 2027.

The 30-year-old joined the team from Alpine last year. He was out-scored by rookie team mate Oliver Bearman last year and lies behind his team mate in the standings.

“At the moment I’m definitely a free agent for next year,” said Ocon in Baku. “[There are] all these discussions and there are certain topics in the background that are out of my control at this moment. So I’m focused on the track, trying to deliver the best I can and getting the result that this team deserves.”

Neither Haas driver has scored since Ocon’s ninth-place finish in Monaco.

Ocon said he’s been “really happy with my personal performance” lately. “I think I’ve been getting the maximum out of the car for quite a while now and we’ve never doubted about it.

“Of course, when the car is working, it helps [you] to get something better. When the inconsistencies of the cars are here, where you struggle more, you don’t look as good.

“But I know that I’m exploiting the maximum of the package that I have every single time. So that’s strong.

Ocon ran 10th at the last round in Madrid prior to his pit stop, but fell to 11th at the finish.

“I’m the last one to have scored for the team in Monaco, but it’s been a while. But we were [running] in the points in Madrid, we got both Audis at the start, and we lost it in the pit lane. So this is something we will get stronger on now. But it was a very strong weekend.

“I’m happy with my performance. So we need to keep going here, hopefully have another strong one. There’s usually things happening on this track so I’m looking forward to driving here.”

Ferrari junior driver Rafael Camara, who is currently second in the Formula 2 standings, has been linked to the team. Bearman is also part of Ferrari’s young driver programme.
