Ocon confirms “difference in viewpoints” led to shock exit from Haas | Formula 1

Esteban Ocon has clarified the reasons behind Haas’s decision to drop him from their race team at the Mexican Grand Prix.

Haas confirmed this morning Ocon will not continue to drive for the team this weekend. The team has replaced him with Ryo Hirakawa.

While Haas has given no reason for its decision, the team has stated it is not due to illness. Ocon had a testy exchange with race engineer Laura Mueller over his strategy in the second practice session yesterday, and in a statement issued on Saturday he indicated the consequences of that were related to his depature.

“Following the recent decision from Haas F1 Team confirming that I will not be participating in this weekend’s Mexico City Grand Prix, I wish to formally address some media reports and speculation surrounding the situation,” said Ocon in a statement. “Last night, a difference in viewpoints led to a discussion with the parties involved.”

Ocon also strongly denied claims Haas’s decision was linked to any violent action.

“Whilst I acknowledge that this took place, I categorically reject any reports or allegations suggesting that any form of physical violence was used to resolve any differences of any nature,” he said.

“I strongly condemn violence in all its forms and firmly believe that disagreements should always be handled with professionalism, respect, and mutual understanding.”

Haas is yet to confirm whether Ocon, who is due to leave the team after the final race of this season, will take part in any of this year’s remaining rounds for them.

“I kindly ask that speculation be avoided while the matter is being addressed,” Ocon added. “Further updates will be communicated in due course.”
