Lando Norris says McLaren made it clear there must be no repeat of the collision between its drivers which occured during the sprint race in Singapore.
However Norris, who triggered the collision with his last-lap move on Oscar Piastri, said the pair are still allowed to race each other. “I can go for gap on Oscar,” said the world champion.Returning to Austin, which was the scene of another tangle between the pair in a sprint race 12 months ago, Norris said the team had made its displeasure with the Singapore collision clear.
“I got plenty of telling-offs and plenty of words have been said, but we’re still allowed to race,” he said.
“Of course we can’t have what happened last weekend and what happened even, say, here last year, we can’t have that happening. So now we’re allowed to race, but obviously we can’t have a coming-together and we have to avoid that.”
Piastri said he was “happy with how things have been dealt with” by the team.
“I think the team, Zak [Brown, CEO] and Andrea [Stella, team principal] have handled things the way they should have been, so that’s been fine.”
