The session was red-flagged for almost an hour and a half when a downpour hit during Q1.Norris beat George Russell to set the fastest time before the rain returned in Q3. However the Mercedes driver’s penalty will promote his team mate Andrea Kimi Antonelli to the front row of the grid.

The Red Bull driver dropped out in Q2 along with Lewis Hamilton. Both will move to the back of the grid due to their power unit change penalties.

While Alexander Albon took his Williams into the rare heights of Q3. It came partly at the expense of Oscar Piastri, who never looked as comfortable as his team mate in the conditions and dropped out in Q2.
The second McLaren will start 10th, one place ahead of newcomer Rafael Camara. He led his team mate through Q1 where both Haas drivers slipped up, Camara hitting a barrier on the Reta Oposta and Bearman going off at Juncao. Camara crashed again in Q2 and will start 11th after penalties.
