Cadillac has announced a new contract with Sergio Perez, days before he starts his 300th grand prix at home in Mexico.
Perez will remain at the team until at least 2029 under his new, long-term deal.He joined the F1 newcomers last year ahead of their debut this season.
“Building a competitive team in F1 is a long-term journey, and securing Checo’s talent and leadership gives us the continuity and commitment we need to build on the strong foundation established in our first year,” said CEO Dan Towriss. “Together, we are focused on the next phase of our journey, pushing the team forward and making progress up the grid.”
Cadillac is yet to confirm the identity of Perez’s team mate for next year. The team are yet to score a point, Perez having achieved a best finish of 14th, current team mate Valtteri Bottas 13th.
“Building a Formula 1 team from the ground up takes time, relentless work and patience, but the progress we are making together is incredibly rewarding,” said Perez. “There is still a lot of work ahead of us and I am fully committed for the next three years.”
Perez has experienced disappointment with multi-year contracts before. In 2019 he agreed a three-year deal to stay at Lawrence Stroll’s Racing Point team, before it became Aston Martin. However Stroll dropped Perez at the end of the following season and replaced him with Sebastian Vettel.
During his fourth year at Red Bull the team extended his contract by two years, then dropped him at the end of the season. He sat out the 2025 campaign before returning to F1 with Cadillac.
