Max Verstappen revealed he had yet more problems with his radio during the United States Grand Prix.
The Red Bull driver suffered serious disruption to his pit-to-car communications when he won the previous round in Singapore. He said the radio fault in Austin was “not the second time” it has happened this year.“It’s already, I don’t know how many times this year,” he said. “Maybe we should just start communicating in sign language. It’s probably cheaper as well.”
“It’s a disaster. It’s really frustrating, to be honest.”
Verstappen qualified second in Austin but fell to third place in the race as he struggled with his car’s balance. During one radio exchange Verstappen admitted he did not know how to change his front wing angle at his next pit stop.
Afterwards he said Red Bull had not been especially strong or weak anywhere at the Austin track.
“We are balanced as a car,” he said. “We are not the fastest in high-speed, we’re not the fastest in low-speed, and I think maybe here you either need to be very fast in high-speed or you need to be the quickest in low-speed.

“When you’re none of it, you’re just a little bit average, and I think we were just a little bit average in the race.”
However he does believe there was potential for Red Bull to perform better last weekend.
“Of course, if we chose different tyres, probably we could have maybe been second, but that’s always easy to say afterwards. Plus, when you have too many issues with the consistency of your power unit, then that already costs you free lap time.
“So it’s normal that you can’t execute everything to the limit or at least be at your best. There are still a lot of things that we need to look at and do better.”
