Formula 1 has announced its calendar for the 2027 season and increased the total number of sprint events to 10.
The 2027 F1 calendar will therefore include a record total of 34 races.Despite concerns over the viability of racing in the Middle East, the championship has announced its 2027 season will begin and end with back-to-back rounds in the region.
The championship will open and close with sprint events in Bahrain and Abu Dhabi. This year’s Bahrain Grand Prix has been relocated to Malaysia due to the ongoing war in Iran, but Formula One Management says next year’s season-opener will take place at the Bahrain International Circuit.
Saudi Arabia’s Jeddah Corniche Circuit, which was dropped from this year’s calendar due to the war, is slated to hold the second round of the season.
The status of this year’s season-ending races in Qatar and Abu Dhabi remains in doubt. Formula 1 CEO Stefano has previously indicated a decision on whether those events will go ahead will be announced in mid-September, but F1’s statement on its 2027 calendar made no reference to the situation.
The cancellation of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix reduced the total number of events on this year’s calendar from 24 to 23. Providing all next year’s events take place, the calendar will return to a total of 24 rounds. As previously announced, Zandvoort in the Netherlands and the Circuit de Catalunya in Spain will lose their events, while new rounds in Portugal and Turkey join the calendar.
The total number of sprint events will increase from six to 10 next year. Although F1 originally announced the format would be used at “tracks with great overtaking potential”, next year’s calendar includes a sprint event at Monte-Carlo in Monaco, widely regarded as the hardest track to overtake on.

Four other venues will also hold sprint events for the first time: Bahrain, Melbourne in Australia, Suzuka in Japan and Yas Marina in Abu Dhabi. For the first time the opening race of the season will be a sprint race and the final round will also be a sprint event.
None of the 24 events clash with the Indianapolis 500, Le Mans 24 Hours or Nurburgring 24 Hours.
