Mexican Grand Prix stopped after Bottas crashes out at turn one | Formula 1

The Mexican Grand Prix has been red-flagged and stopped after Valtteri Bottas crashed at turn one.

The Cadillac driver suffered a left-front suspension failure at the fastest point on the circuit approaching turn one. His car spun and went into the barrier rera-first.

Bottas’s impact was heavy enough that the Medical Car was sent to the scene. He was able to climb out of the car but was taken to the Medical Centre for precautionary checks.

The FIA confirmed race was red-flagged as the Cadillac caused significant damaged to the TecPro barriers at the first corner.

The race was stopped after 46 out of 71 laps. Race control originally announced the restart order for the top four would be Max Verstappen leading ahead of Charles Leclerc, Andrea Kimi Antonelli and Lewis Hamilton.

However they later revised the starting order, moving Hamilton in front of Antonelli. The Ferrari driver fell behind his rival because he pitted during the Safety Car period before the race was red-flagged.

Behind them Lando Norris, George Russell, Arvid Lindblad, Oscar Piastri and Franco Colapinto took the next places. Pierre Gasly completed the top 10 following another change to the restart order which moved him ahead of Nico Hulkenbreg, Oliver Bearman and Gabriel Bortoleto.

The race will resume at 3:45pm local time.
