Liam Lawson admitted he faces an uncertain future despite his strong performance for Racing Bulls this year.
He lies ninth in the championship with 83 points – eight of which he scored in his three-race stint at Red Bull – which is more than twice as many as any other midfield driver, bar Alpine’s Pierre Gasly. However Racing Bulls is yet to confirm whether Lawson or current team mate Arvid Lindblad will keep their seats. The team is also believed to be considering whether to promote Red Bull junior driver Nikola Tsolov.
Lawson, who finished seventh in Mexico despite starting from the pit lane due to a penalty for a technical infringement in qualifying, is pleased with his performance so far this year.
“If I look a year ago we were in a different position and I probably thought about it [my future] a lot more. I think I learned from that as well and this year I haven’t really thought about it so much.
“But also the racing has been a lot stronger this year. I think Mexico is more of a specific situation that obviously happened on Friday that made the whole weekend a bit more tough but in terms of the performance I was in the sort of same place I’ve been all year.”
The team is on course to finish fifth in the constructors’ championship. This would be the best result it has scored under any identity since it first entered the world championship as Minardi in 1985.

“Every weekend I’ve been trying to do my best and I feel like we’ve had a really strong year and we’re in a good position,” said Lawson. “We’re fighting Alpine, we pull away from Alpine every weekend and with a few races left we’re trying to stay on top of them.
“I don’t know what else they want me to do but it’s just one of those things at the moment.”
He admitted that the team’s late decision on its driver line-up could leave him with no alternatives in 2027. “It’s tough, isn’t it? It’s the end of the season.
“When something like this is pushed all the way to the end, you’re left with not really any options. It’s not the easiest situation.
“Obviously, I want to be racing Formula 1 and I’m trying to show my best every weekend. I feel like we’ve had a good year.”
