India spinner takes first-ever U19 Test 14-wicket haul

Playing against Australia U19, Tanmay Baloda of India U19 became the first bowler to take 14 wickets in a Youth Test match.

World record for Tanmay Baloda

Haryana left-arm spinner Tanmay Baloda set a new world record for most wickets in a Youth Test match. With 6-32, Baloda had first reduced Australia U19 to 65-6, then bowled them out for 174 on the first day of the second Youth Test, in Ahmedabad, after home captain Yashbardhan Chauhan won the toss and opted to field.

India U19 responded with 315, with half-centuries from Chauhan (52) and wicketkeeper Abhipray Biswas (73 in 62 balls) even as leg-spinner Spencer Green returned 7-110.

With a 141-run lead, Badola opened bowling and quickly reduced the visitors to 26-3 and then 98-8. Blake Cattle, Australia’s hero of the first Youth Test, scored 63 to help avoid the innings defeat, but the Indian openers took only five balls to get to the target of 11 to level the series 1-1.

Badola finished with 8-41 and a match haul of 14-73, the first 14-wicket haul (and obviously the best match figures) in Youth Test history. (12-92) held the previous record, while S Vidyut (12-122) held the Indian record.
