“I deserve to be in Formula 1”: Ocon rules out racing elsewhere in 2027 | Formula 1

Esteban Ocon is not interested in racing in another series next year if he cannot find a Formula 1 drive.

Haas announced last week Ocon will not return to drive for them next year. Although there are few places remaining on the grid for 2027, Ocon is committed to remaining in F1.

“That’s where I deserve to be,” he said. “If I look at the results and what I’ve shown in Formula 1, I deserve to be in Formula 1.

“Of course, there are other categories which are fantastic as well. But I want to be racing in Formula 1, in the next five, seven years. That’s what I want to be.

“So I will keep pushing to be that position. In the near future, that’s the only thing I’m looking at so far.”

Ocon made his F1 debut in 2016. He has raced every year since there except in 2019, when he lost his seat at Racing Point to Lance Stroll, and spent a season as a test driver for Mercedes. He said he would consider a similar arrangement if he cannot find a race seat for next year.

“If there are no possibilities to race next year, that’s what I will do,” he said.

“I’m still working on it, still discussing,” he added. “When I have more news I will announce something definitely, but at the moment, full focus is on this weekend.”
