Hadjar says injured wrist is “still going to be painful for a while” after comeback | Formula 1

Isack Hadjar says he is still in pain from his injured wrist as he returns to racing this weekend.

The Red Bull driver, who has missed the last three rounds, said his wrist is “good enough to drive, so that’s all I need.”

He said no surgery was required on the injury and a pre-event simulator session indicated it is now strong enough for him to be able to drive.

“I have a small fracture on the outside of the wrist and it’s just quite a long process,” said Hadjar. “I didn’t need any surgery so it’s all natural and it takes some time.

“It’s still going to be painful for a while. It’s going to be six weeks.

“It says that it’s strong enough at the moment to resist the tensions. I had a test on the sim, it went well. I think it’s a similar environment as the cockpit. It’s actually, if anything, nearly identical. So if it’s fine on the sim, with the adrenaline on track and everything, I think I should be okay.

“It’s just been the training sessions have not been fun because I’ve been doing basically nothing with the left limb, so it’s been a bit boring.”

Hadjar confirmed he spoke to multiple Moto GP champion Marc Marquez, who has broken many bones during his career, notably in 2020 when he made an early return from one injury only to sustain another. Hadjar said Marquez told him: “Not to race.”

Red Bull confirmed today Hadjar will continue to drive for them next season. Hadjar said the news is “good, it is nice, but it is natural.”

“I’m not here to be hopeful,” he explained. “I’m here to show what I do on track and naturally, the rest comes, so it’s normal in a way.”
