Isack Hadjar said he was unable to defend his podium position in the final laps of the Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia.
The Red Bull driver held third place behind his team mate and Andrea Kimi Antonelli during the final Safety Car period. However he had both Ferraris close behind him.Once the race restarted, Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc quick picked him off. Hadjar took the chequered flag in fifth place.
Hadjar successfully resisted Hamilton for many laps earlier in the race when his rival was on the medium tyre compound. However once Hamilton switched to soft tyres under the Safety Car, Hadjar fell prey to the Ferrari.
“I had no battery, something like that,” he explained. “So there was no contest against the Ferraris in the straight.”
However Hadjar was unhappy with his pace earlier in the race as well. “I don’t know what happened in terms of the grip I had on the car,” he said. “The whole race I was so slow.
“I don’t know what happened to my pace, but [it] really [was] one race to put in the bin.”
“We’ll fix the issue and understand why we are so bad today,” he added.
