Three Formula 1 drivers will take grid penalties for this weekend’s race in Malaysia after their teams changed parts of their power units.
Isack Hadjar, who finished on the podium last weekend, will take a five-place grid penalty as Red Bull have swapped his internal combustion engine. Hadjar will use his seventh ICE of the season.Franco Colapinto will take a further penalty on top of the five-place grid drop he received for colliding with Pierre Gasly and Lando Norris in Azerbaijan. Alpine have fitted his fifth different ICE, moving him beyond the maximum allocation, which incurs a 10-place grid drop, meaning he will be moved back a total of 15 places.
Racing Bulls have replaced Arvid Lindblad’s ICE, turbocharger and exhaust this weekend. As he has taken his fifth example of each, Lindblad receives a 30-place grid penalty. F1’s regulations state this means he will be moved to the back of the grid.
Cadillac have also fitted a new ICE and turbocharger to Valtteri Bottas’s car, but he is still within his maximum allocation of components and therefore does not incur a penalty.
