Tushar Deshpande five-for puts Mumbai in commanding position
The 31-year old seamer was at his best on the second day of season opener, completing a hat-trick to help Mumbai bowl out Chandigarh for just 78 in their home fixture. Opening the bowling after Mumbai posted 429 in their first innings, Deshpande provided the first breakthrough on the final ball of his fourth over.
He then went on to complete the hat-trick in his sixth over, removing Arjun Azad, Shivam Bhambri, and Dipender Kush. He became the sixth Mumbai bowler and 86th overall to do this.
Deshpande, who has played two T20Is for India, completed his five-wicket haul in his next over by sending back Raj Bawa for the third duck of the innings. He wasn't done for the day as he cleaned up Vishu Kashyap for a three-ball duck in the only over before stumps after Mumbai enforced the follow-on.
Earlier in the match, India Test opener fell for a 13-ball duck while Sarfaraz Khan got a solitary run. Mumbai skipper Siddhesh Lad made 86 and added 67 for the third wicket with Musheer Khan (65) and 74 with Shams Mulani to steady the innings. Mohit Avasthi also scored a fifty while Deshpande hit 44 in 47 balls.

Deshpande is yet to play in whites for India, and is down the pecking order. He was part of the India A squad that faced Australia A in two unofficial Tests in Puducherry in September, where he picked up 2-32 and 3-14 in the first game but went wicketless in the second. He has played 50 first-class matches including the ongoing fixture, and has taken 140 wickets at 27.56 runs apiece with six five-wicket hauls.
