Formula 1 could have one fewer race-winner on the grid in 2027 as Esteban Ocon has given the strongest indication yet he won’t remain at Haas.

But with Haas’s power unit supplier Ferrari potentially looking to promote their Formula 2 talent Rafael Camara, reader Marvin The Martian reckons

Ocon is a mid driver at best. His race win in Hungary was not to do with skill and in a poor car, a mid driver cannot shine. The fact that Bearman is untroubled by Ocon’s ability is plain to see.

From a Haas perspective, keeping Ocon is a neutral equation. He’s not bringing in anything and having someone else in the car would make little to no difference to them from a sporting standpoint, it if having a Ferrari academy driver in the car gets them cheaper parts, why wouldn’t you?

Camara would be obvious for them given his current visibility across the F2 standings and the media. Couple that with his corporate backing and the fanaticism of Brazilian fans with wallets, he is a more attractive choice than a Mercedes journeyman with little in the way of an affiliation package.

Performance comes first, allegedly, but you can’t ignore financial performance. Besides, they’re not going to get Tsolov, Mini or Dunne so why not?
