Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali has repeatedly claimed sprint races are popular among fans, though every poll RaceFans has conducted of its readers has shown the opposite.
The championship has now increased the number of sprint races to 10 on the 2027 F1 calendar but long-time reader DB-C90 doesn’t plan to watch any of it:
I gave up a couple of years ago.
First I refused to watch any part of sprint weekends, then I started skipping races in time zones that were too difficult and then finally I just stopped altogether.
It’s no longer the pinnacle of drivers taking cars to the edge, the regulations don’t allow any proper innovation, it’s just not the same.
Ten sprints will become sprints most events, a good number of events will become three sprint events (one reverse grid) and us long term fans will be replaced by who knows what.
At least I now have weekends to myself.
