Featured Comment: Keeping Lawson is the smart choice for Racing Bulls | Brief

Racing Bulls are heading for the best-ever championship finish but the driver who scored the majority of their points does not know whether they will keep him for next season.

Reader Wellbalanced says they should keep Liam Lawson and his impressive rookie team mate Arvid Lindblad:

He has 83 points so far this season (Lindblad (a rookie, and also excellent) has 38; Hadjar (driving the car that Lawson gained 8 of his points in) has 107 (only 24 more). Further, Racing Bulls have 108 points (39 more than Alpine) and lie (solidly) in fifth place in the constructors’, which as the article says would be the team’s best finishing position in its history (including 2008, when Vettel won at Monza).

His brief time at Red Bull this season was not brilliant (rather like his previous (even briefer) time with Red Bull. But then nor has anyone been brilliant in the second Red Bull seat (since Ricciardo), and in any event he has shown what he can do in the (easier to drive) Racing Bulls car.

It is November. Unless he wanted to race for Cadillac (even if the seat was his for the taking) he has no other race seat option for next year.

Given the stage of the season, and given the performance of both of their drivers this year, Racing Bulls owe it to both Lawson and Lindblad to keep them on for 2027. Ultimately, I am confident that will be happen. If it doesn’t, however, they will have ripe cause for complaint.
