THOM Evans believes rugby is a safer sport today despite the increasing speed and power of the modern game.
The former Scotland and Glasgow Warriors wing was forced to retire after a serious neck injury against Wales in 2010, but insists the changes made around tackle laws in the years since have improved player safety.
Evans, whose career was cut short at 25, also regards the injury which ended his playing days as a freak accident rather than evidence that the sport itself was unsafe.
