Alpine have questioned why Arvid Lindblad was not penalised for causing a collision during a restart last weekend, as its driver Franco Colapinto was.
Colapinto received a five-place grid penalty for triggering a collision at a Safety Car restart which eliminated his team mate Pierre Gasly and McLaren’s Lando Norris. Lindblad was involved in a collision at the same time with his team mate, Liam Lawson. Both Alpine drivers retired but the Racing Bulls pair continued.Alpine executive consultant Flavio Briatore said “I don’t understand” why the Azerbaijan Grand Prix stewards did not penalise Lindblad.
“We are penalised, we deserve to be penalised. I don’t understand why Racing Bulls was not penalised, because Lindblad did exactly the same to Lawson. “Why are we penalised and also Lindblad was not penalised?”
The stewards said they cleared Lindblad because “the contact was primarily the result of the restricted space available to Lindblad and the chain reaction caused by the incident ahead” which Colapinto caused.
Alpine are 15 points behind Racing Bulls in their battle for fifth place in the championship. They lost six points to their rivals in Baku, having gained on them in each of the previous three rounds.
