Maaz Sadaqat continues his dream run in T20 cricket

The Pakistan youngster fell four runs short of what would've been a third T20 century in his last seven appearances. Coming in to bat at number three in the seventh over, Sadaqat added 88 runs with captain Sahibzada Farhan to set up an 82-run victory, and claim an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series.

Sadaqat struck seven maximums and six fours during his stay at the crease, but missed the three-figure mark, holing out to deep cover on the final ball of the innings. Pakistan posted 215-3 on the back of his knock, with Farhan also scoring 73 off 44 deliveries. Mohammad Imran later snared 3-11 in his four overs to make light work of the visitors.

This was Sadaqat's second fifty in only his fourth T20I, having scored 50 off 29 in the first game of the ongoing series as they chased down 183. He has been in an impressive run of form since the Caribbean Premier League, where he hammered two centuries, including 114 off 58 against Antigua and Barbuda Falcons in the final. In the last seven T20 games, he has racked up 451 runs at an average of 64.42 at an incredible strike rate of 196.94.

Sadaqat could be the answer to Pakistan's long-standing problems in the top order. Since 2025, 11 players have batted in the top three for Pakistan, with only Babar Azam, Farhan and Sadaqat averaging more than 35. Azam, however, has struck at only 115.

Pakistan will host Sri Lanka in the third T20I at the same venue on Tuesday, October 13, before they move on to the ODI tri-series, also including England.
