Chinmay Sutar produced a historic knock of 400 not out in Mizoram’s Ranji Trophy 2026/27 Plate group fixture against Nagaland at Nagaland Cricket Stadium in Dimapur.
Chinmay Sutar joins elite club with historic 400*
Only a handful of players can say they have scored a 400 in their first-class career. Chinmay Sutar, who moved from Mumbai to Mizoram, has etched his name in history books after his marathon knock against Nagaland, spanning over five sessions.
Sutar came into bat at the fall of first wicket in the eighth over and carried the Mizoram innings, powering them to 581-9. They were 146-4 at one stage but with Jehu Anderson (69) in support, they duo added 168 runs for the fifth wicket.
When it looked like he would be left stranded after the ninth wicket, Lalrempuia Chhakchhuak provided just the support Sutar needed with his 76-ball 14. Their unbroken stand of 189 runs, where Sutar did bulk of the scoring, allowed him to become only the second batter to breach the 400-run barrier in the Ranji Trophy after Bhausaheb Nimbalkar made 443 not out in 1948. In the process, he also surpassed Prithvi Shaw, who scored 379 off 383 balls against Assam in January 2023.
The 29-year-old batted for a mammoth 517 balls in his innings, which included 46 fours and seven maximums. The significance of his knock can be understood by the fact that he accumulated 68.80% of the team’s total, with only one other batter crossing the fifty-run mark.

Sutar’s innings looks especially impressive considering his lack of experience in red-ball cricket. This was only his second FC match after falling one short of his maiden century in the previous game against Manipur. Notably, this was the first quadruple hundred scored as a batter's first FC century. The previous highest maiden hundred in the format was Bihar's Sakibul Gani's 341 in the 2021/22 season.
